HISTORICAL DRAMA/THRILLER. This play is based on the true story of a courageous Jewish woman, Roza Robota, who led a small group of female prisoners in a plot to blow up a crematorium at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration camp in 1944. After Roza Robota’s mother is selected to die in the gas chambers, Roza is approached by a member of the Underground, who tells her they are planning to blow up the crematoriums and escape but need gunpowder to make explosives. Roza agrees to help and convinces some female prisoners to risk their lives smuggling gunpowder out of the munitions factory. After hearing that one of Roza’s Underground contacts has been murdered, the women are disheartened and think the revolt may fail. But when one of the crematoriums is blown up by the Underground, the women are overjoyed despite having been unable to escape. Knowing the gunpowder came from the munitions factory, the Commandant sends a spy to uncover the identity of the saboteurs. This riveting thriller will captivate and inspire audiences with its story of the brave women who risked their lives to confront and defy evil. Features a strong ensemble cast with female leads and limited set requirements.
